Hunting for Monsters
It was a busy day today. We hunted monsters and painted the kitchen.
I tried getting Cole to nap today after lunch but he wasn't too interested. We'd gone downtown with Cindy to check out the big Games tent (deadsville) and ended up just having coffee on Main Street. Cole had brought his stroller with his baby and proudly pushed it around with us. He almost fell asleep in the car on the way back to the house.
Anyway, he got up from bed and put on his worker goggles. Suddenly he looked at me with dismay and said, "Daddy, I can see monsters!" Apparently these were magic glasses. He looked out the window and exclaimed, "The monsters are in the park!" We got dressed and headed out to get 'em.
It seems the park was not a popular place all winter. To get to the main climbing structure I had to cut us a trail through waist-deep snow. Cole chased the monsters down the slide but missed them. He gave up for a while and decided we should go on the swing. Again, I had to cut us a trail over. It's amazing how a summer's stroll can be transformed into a major workout by four feet of white, cold stuff. I had to dig the swing out when we got there.
After a while his hands got cold and I stuffed them inside my shirt and carried him home.
We had a snack of crackers, apples, and milk then decided to get some paint for the kitchen. A few weeks ago we'd had a mudder finish the walls but they still needed to be primed. Cole was stoked. He insisted we paint as soon as we got home, so we did. It was a bit of a gong show, painting with a 3-year old, but we got it done. After that we had pancaked and sausage for supper, then watched Peter Pan.
As we lay in bed getting ready to read books I commented to Cole how we'd had a busy day, going downtown and then painting the kitchen. "And the park, Daddy," he said. "We chased monsters at the park." Yes we did.
